The MODIS GUI is now outdated.  It was developed for an older version of MODIS data - the MODIS file formats have since changed.  This code will not work for currently available MODIS data.  Instead, I recommend the IDL-based software SeaDAS (freeware that comes with embedded IDL).  It was developed at NASA to process ocean color data from numerous satellites including MODIS.
